At only sixteen years of age, she has had more musical experience than most—on stage and off. She started learning violin at age six and continues to take lessons. She has also picked up a bit of mandolin and guitar along the way. Her first violin was one borrowed from friends, and Meredith soon graduated to her mother’s old violin which she still plays on occasion, “especially for the classical stuff and slow songs.” The instrument she plays the most is a family heirloom found in an attic and repaired over the years. Last July she had the good fortune to attended the O’Connor Method Camp in New York City, led by legendary musician Mark O’Connor, an experience she won’t soon forget. Meredith lists Patsy Cline among her musical influences, along with a host of others including Allison Krause, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Norah Jones and Bonnie Raitt.
